Privacy Policy

Effective: July 10, 2026

Journal Ninja ("we", "us") is a private journaling app that uses AI to give you reflections on what you write. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Your journal is personal, and we treat it that way.

We do not show ads, we do not sell your data, and we do not use advertising or cross-app tracking. We use privacy-preserving, anonymous product analytics only to understand how the app is used so we can improve it, never your journal content (see "Who we share data with").

Information we collect

How we use your information

We use your information to provide the app: to store your journal, track streaks and goals, and generate AI reflections, missions, weekly reviews, and letters grounded in what you have written.

We do not use your content for advertising, profiling for third parties, or sale.

AI processing

To generate reflections, your relevant journal text is sent to Google's Gemini API, a third-party AI service, solely to produce a response that is returned to you. Voice journaling is transcribed to text by your device's built-in operating-system speech recognition; the audio recording is not sent to us or to our AI provider. Only the transcribed text you choose to keep is saved, and it is treated like any other journal text.

We operate this through a paid API tier; per Google's terms for that tier, your prompts and content are not used to train their models. We send only what is needed for the feature you requested.

For users identified as minors, no content is sent to the AI until a parent or guardian has granted consent (see "Children" below). This is enforced on our servers.

Children and parental consent

Journal Ninja is for ages 13 and up. Anyone under 13 is blocked at sign-up.

Users aged 13–17 are treated as minors. A minor must provide a parent or guardian's email, and we send that adult a request to approve the account. Until consent is granted, the account is locked and no journal content is processed by AI.

A parent or guardian may withdraw consent or request deletion of their child's data at any time by contacting us at the address below. In line with India's DPDP Act, we apply child protections to users under 18.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers ("processors") strictly to run the app:

These providers process data only on our instructions. We may disclose data if required by law. We never sell your data.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account exists so the app works as expected. When you delete your account, your profile and all associated content are permanently and irreversibly removed from our systems.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access to your records is restricted by per-user row-level security, so your entries are only ever accessible to your authenticated account. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Your rights and choices

You can, at any time, directly in the app:

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to correction, restriction, or to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Contact us to exercise any right.

International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
